SCOTLAND: Isle of Skye & The Highlands

September 30 – October 7, 2022 • SOLD OUT

This workshop will introduce you to some of Scotland’s most iconic landscapes, from the scenic mountains, glens, and lochs of Glencoe to the rugged mountain ranges and dramatic coastline of Skye. Along with our local guides (award-winning photographers and residents of Skye), we’ll put you in the best spots at each location, and we’ll get you there in the best light available.

We plan to maximize our time on location, shooting as much as conditions permit. But we’ll also include in-the-field teaching and demonstrations, ongoing image reviews, as well as informal lessons and processing instruction when we’re not out shooting.

We invite you to join us on this photographic adventure and find out why Scotland is a favourite destination for landscape photographers.

If you have any questions about this workshop, please contact us. We look forward to hearing from you.

A deposit of $1,500 is required to confirm your registration; the balance of $4,000 is due June 1, 2022.

Wednesday, September 28
Travel to Glasgow, Scotland (typically an evening departure from Canada or the U.S., arriving early the next morning).

Thursday, September 29
Arrive in Glasgow and spend the day at your leisure adjusting to the new time zone or touring Glasgow City Centre. In the evening, we’ll gather for an informal, pre-workshop dinner (optional) at the Holiday Inn Glasgow Airport hotel, which is where we recommend staying before and after the workshop (it’s conveniently located just across the road from the terminal).

Friday, September 30 and Saturday, October 1 (Days 1-2)
We’ll meet in the lobby of the Holiday Inn Glasgow Airport hotel after breakfast and then make our way to Glencoe, stopping for lunch and possibly a photo shoot along the way. After checking in at our hotel, we’ll have time to rest before we head out for a sunset shoot. We’ll be up early the next morning for sunrise, followed by a full day exploring the scenic Highlands. Locations on our agenda while we’re in Glencoe include Kilchurn Castle, Blackrock Cottage, Three Sisters, Glen Etive, and Rannoch Moor.

Accommodation: Bridge of Orchy Hotel

Sunday, October 2 (Day 3)
Today, we have some options, depending on weather conditions. We may start the day with breakfast and an early departure as we head to Glenfinnan for the panoramic view of Loch Shiel and the viaduct made famous in Harry Potter films. We’ll then travel by ferry to Skye and end the day with a sunset shoot. Alternatively, we may head out for a sunrise shoot in Glencoe, followed by breakfast and more time photographing the area before driving to Skye.

Accommodation: Uig Hotel

Monday, October 3 to Wednesday, October 5 (Days 4-6)
Three full days on Skye will give us the opportunity to explore many iconic photo locations, such as the Quiraing, Old Man of Storr, Fairy Glen, Neist Point, Talisker Bay, Sligachan, Fairy Pools, and Elgol. We’ll also include some lesser-known locations that most visitors don’t get to experience. Our extended stay will allow us the luxury of being spontaneous with our itinerary to ensure we’re at the best locations for the light and weather conditions each day.

Accommodation: Uig Hotel

Thursday, October 6 (Day 7)
We’ll start the day with a sunrise/morning shoot on Skye before making our way back to the Highlands. Along the way, we’ll stop at Eilean Donan Castle, one of the most photographed castles in Scotland, then we’ll continue on to Invergarry where we’ll enjoy a memorable night in a historic castle hotel.

Accommodation: Glengarry Castle Hotel

Friday, October 7 (Day 8)
On our final day together, we will either explore the area near our hotel, which includes Invergarry Castle ruins and the wreck of the Eala Bhan on Loch Oich, or we’ll return to a favourite location in Glencoe before we drive back to Glasgow. We’ll arrive in Glasgow at the end of the day, where you’ll be dropped off at the Holiday Inn Glasgow Airport hotel.

Saturday, October 8
Depart Glasgow (typically an early morning flight to return to Canada and the U.S.) or continue on your travels if you decide to extend your stay beyond the workshop.

This itinerary may be modified to provide the best photo opportunities based on the conditions at the time of the workshop. Meal times, rest breaks, and photo instruction will be incorporated into the itinerary based on our shooting schedule each day.
